Course Overview:

This course is designed for all skill levels, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist looking to refine your skills. Under Roland Stevenson’s expert guidance, you will explore the fundamental techniques of sculpting animal forms. Roland will cover essential aspects of animal anatomy and movement, helping you understand how to capture the essence and dynamic forms of your favourite animals.

Participants will have the opportunity to sculpt their favourite animals, learning techniques to bring their sculptures to life. Roland will also provide an example of his own work that you can copy. He will provide personalised feedback and tips throughout the day, ensuring you refine your technique and develop your sculpting skills. You will receive full support throughout the day.

Programme:

Morning Session (10:00 AM – 1:00 PM):

• Introduction and Welcome:
  • Meet Roland Stevenson and your fellow participants.
  • Introduction to the materials and tools you’ll be using.
  • Overview of the day’s schedule and objectives.
• Fundamentals of Animal Anatomy:
  • Learn about the basic structures and proportions of various animals.
  • Understand the importance of studying real-life references and anatomy.
• Sculpting Techniques:
  • Demonstration of basic sculpting techniques, including building armatures and creating initial forms.
  • Start working on your chosen animal sculpture, focusing on the basic shape and proportions.

Lunch Break (1:00 PM – 2:00 PM):

• Linch Break (Please bring your own lunch)
• Take this opportunity to discuss your progress and ideas with Roland and other participants.
• Socialize and network with fellow sculptors.

Afternoon Session (2:00 PM – 5:00 PM):

• Refining Your Sculpture:
  • Continue working on your sculpture, adding details, and refining shapes.
  • Learn techniques for capturing movement and expression in your sculpture.
  • Roland will provide individual feedback and demonstrate advanced techniques.
• Bringing Your Sculpture to Life:
  • Focus on final touches, textures, and finishes.
  • Discuss different finishing techniques to enhance your sculpture’s appearance.
• Showcase and Feedback:
  • Display your completed sculpture and receive constructive feedback from Roland and other people and share tips and techniques.

By the end of the course, you’ll have created your own animal sculpture and gained a deeper understanding of sculpting techniques. You’ll leave with the knowledge and skills to continue your sculpting journey.
